Southfield vs.Rivers-Semi-finals March 6, 2010
This was to be the rubber match, with the life time record 2-2. Last year Southfield upset Rivers in the Semi-Finals and then last week with the dramatic OT win at Rivers this was expected to be a game. Southfield showed they came to play by getting on the board first at at 3:27 into the first period. Then the penalties started, our penalty kill squad went into action. (Personally I think again the reffing was inconsistent and had the potential to change the outcome of the game ) Then on the power play things would start to explode for Southfield with 3:39 left the spree began 2-0, 33 seconds later at 3:06 3-0, Rivers timeout but 26 seconds later 4-0, With just over 1 minute left they would top off the scoring spree (4 goals in 2 minutes 37 seconds) and head to the locker room with a 5-0 lead.
Second period Southfield got to use the penalty kill team as they took heavy penalties in the second period. Giving Rivers several 5-3 advantages. At 4:42 left in the second Rivers would start a scoring spree of its own ( 3 goals in 2 min 27 seconds) Southfield time out and off to the locker room holding on to a 5-3 lead. Third period was the hockey we expected, refs still threatening to change the outcome of the game with inconsistent calls, up and down the ice and both teams came up scoreless. Southfield wins the rubber match and moves on to play Governors for the championship title for the second year in a row.
