Hamilton vs. Cortland Fri Jan 10, 2014
The girls must have been anxious to get back on the ice as it had been a while. A couple of girls are out with injuries and others playing hurt. Nikki is still out but made her first appearance in the rink this season which is a good sign. The girls had a little blip where they seemed to give in to the aggressive style of play but quickly got into their game and started registering long distance shot after shot on the goalie. They seemed to be a little tentative in the first period but besides a few minutes dominated the play and ran up the shots.
You could tell that all it needed was one and then the Red Dragons would be fighting to stay in the game. You could hear Katie Zimmerman trying to get her team going in her first visit to Hamilton as a visiting coach. Just under 6 minutes into the 2nd period the puck would ring off the right side post on a deflected blue line shot and make it into the net. Hamilton up 1-0 and now the controlled and more aggressive approach took over. The Dragon goalie came up with some big saves but with an extra skater hitting the ice for the delayed penalty it would be Hamilton up 2-0 and on a power play. They could not capitalize on that or the 5-3 that quickly followed for another too many men on the ice call. The final goal in the third game was a sweet shot from the left side finding the post over the goalies shoulder for the 3-0 win against SUNY Cortland.
