Sunday, the day the Mules remembered our last meeting so well, but the Hamilton girls came out hard and would not let up.. Winning each period and outshooting them 41-19. The Colby girls made their mark however with some efficient shooting.
This game the penalties came to both teams.. One ref was quoted as saying there is no body contact allowed in women’s hockey and called the game accordingly wrapping up a total of 8 Body check, cross checks and just plain checks.
We had our 5 on 3 and so did the mules. All 7 goals were scored on power plays in this contest, including the game winner in sudden victory.
Goals were evenly matched 1 for 1 in the first and second periods. Hamilton got on the board first then chased Colby and finally tying it back up with under six minutes to go. In a last ditch effort with 45 seconds left #9 raced across the ice to back check and rocked the boards and went to the box for a body check. The game ended 4-4 and the new rules state that the man advantage continues into the 4 on 4 Overtime period. It would only take the Continentals 1:16 seconds after breaking up an offensive attack and taking it back all the way with a trailer and our two worked together to bury the puck to finish the regular season with a great game and a dramatic OT win.
