Hamilton @ Wesleyan Fri Feb 3, 2012
I missed the RIT game which the girls skated their hearts out and last weekend the Middlebury win so many were expecting the Continentals put on a clinic today. This would not be the case, they struggled to get some rhythm going. They put some pressure on but not with the speed and agility they did the last week. Our first goal came with 13 seconds left in the period and a skirmish in front of the net, sending them to the locker room with an uncomfortable 1-0 lead.
Second period would bring more of the same then with just under 5 minutes a boarding call and game misconduct would see a rash of penalties mark the last minutes of the second period, 5-3, 4-3 plenty of shots at the goalie but no goals. With less than 7 seconds left and faceoff in the home team end, we pulled the goalie for the extra shooter, no luck the score keeper took some heat for a slow finger on the clock but the ref had the time and ended the period on the whistle. Back to the locker room. Third period with penalties still on the board the pace picked up a little bit as Wesleyan came back and showed that they would not roll over.
Then with just under 8 minutes to go they put in another and give them some breathing room. Then both teams picked up the pace and got much faster, back and forth as the Cardinals showed some spirit and put on some pressure. Still down 2-0 they pulled their goalie for the extra skater, this however would result in a two on one and an empty net goal finishing with a must needed 3-0 win.
