Opening game, Continentals hosted Middlebury hoping to set the record straight after last season’s final meeting in the NESCAC playoffs. Play was up and down the ice but Middlebury would capitalize on our first penalty and go ahead 1-0 with 11:11 left in first period play. Second period Middlebury would again take advantage of the powerplay and after just 7 seconds into the penalty go ahead 2-0. With 12:58 left in the 3rd Middlebury would put the last goal of the game home. We also saw the newest rule implemented “delayed penalty that is incurred is still needs to be served even if the play results in a goal” The new icing rule was where it was called off when the offending team gets in a foot race with the other team. Have to look that one up, but expect to see some foot races across the imaginary line between face off dots this year, and if the goalie comes out of the crease icing is waved off.
